Community Calendar Policies
PURPOSE:
This calendar is provided as a public service with these goals:
- Creating a central hub for sharing community events and gatherings.
- Encouraging and making it easier for everyone to stay informed and engaged in town events.
- Plan more effectively and avoid scheduling conflicts.
WHO MAY SUBMIT:
Individuals or organizations who live, work or worship in Sharon.
ACCEPTABLE EVENTS:
- Events should generally promote educational, social, cultural, or recreational activities in Sharon that are open to the general public and sponsored by nonprofit, civic, social, charitable, religious, fraternal, or educational organizations.
- Events may be either in-person or online.
- For examples of what is Acceptable/Not Acceptable – see below. Note that NO political or commercial events will be promoted. (Definition of “political activity” from Cornell Law School: “Political activity means an activity directed toward the success or failure of a political party, candidate for partisan political office, or partisan political group.”)
DATE OF SUBMISSION: Accurate and Detailed information about an event should be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the event, using this form
DISCLAIMERS:
- As a currently volunteer- run calendar, while we will do our best to publish an event which has been submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the event, and we may even be able to post if submitted less than 2 weeks before the event, we cannot guarantee your event will be published.
- We reserve the right to make limited and appropriate edits, where necessary.
- We reserve the right to reject any posting deemed to be offensive, inappropriate, not in the public’s interest, or in conflict with these guidelines.
- We will seek to limit excessive posting from any one organization.
- We are not responsible for any inconvenience or damage caused by a CANCELLED EVENT which was not removed from the Calendar. However, if we are informed of a cancellation with sufficient notice, we will remove the event or note that it has been cancelled.
EXAMPLES OF POSTINGS THAT ARE ACCEPTABLE/NOT ACCEPTABLE
EXAMPLES OF ACCEPTABLE POSTS:
- Art, music, and entertainment events such as concerts, shows, and theaterCultural enrichment happenings
- Business and educational workshops, expos and seminars
- Carnivals, fairs, festivals, parades, antique shows, car rallies, dances, banquets
- Health, nutrition, fitness and wellness programs and clinics, public-sponsored events and not-for-profit fundraisers, including tag/yard sales
- Referendums, elections, public hearings, etc.
- Renowned speakers, performers, groups, and artists
- Town of Sharon events of community interest. (Library. Emergency Preparedness, Voter Reg, etc.)
- Town-wide events, including picnics, gatherings, events, lectures, and games
EXAMPLES OF POSTS THAT ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE:
- Any commercial activity involving the buying, selling, or trading of goods and services aimed at making a profit.
- Sales pitches, recruiting, proselytizing
- Regularly occurring athletic events, fitness classes, religious services, and normal school sessions
- Private events
- Individual tag sales
- Individual retail store offers, sale advertisements
